I wrote a poem, “The Great Bandini” in my last post on my POET-TREE.com site. It was about a has-been circus performer whose bravado and bluster finally killed him.
His bluster was most likely the result of a lifelong search for love and acceptance from everyone and anyone, especially from his father.
This bluster became his greatest strength as an entertainer and his greatest weakness as a human being.
As a result, his inability to tolerate weakness in himself or others prevented him from ever developing empathy for others.
He always controlled conversations and dismissed any constructive criticisms. He always believed that he knew more than anyone else.
When confronted with ideas new to him, he would pretend that he knew every nuance of that subject. If that failed, he proclaimed that nobody had ever thought of that concept before.
He therefore became a constant showman, and carnival barker.
This resulted in his having to always con, bribe or pay to feel any kind of love during his lifetime.
Sometimes life imitates art; Mr. “Pretender to the Presidency”.
The outgoing Obama administration left you a Pandemic Emergency Preparation Manual. As a result of your petty disdain of anything related to President Obama, you immediately dismissed it.
We had a safety net in place for this Pandemic ready to catch us.
Not being satisfied with cutting holes in that net, you removed it completely along with the professionals who would have implemented it.
You say you want our country to return to normal. Your “normal” is where the elite call the shots and the goal of business is profit with no thought given to the detrimental impact on the environment or civilization.
Business devoid of conscience results in every city and town becoming a “Pottersville” as in Frank Capra 1946 film “It’s a Wonderful Life”.
When this pandemic is finally defeated, we should not rebuild the past but forge a new future of altruistic capitalism. Then both large corporations and small businesses will treat all their employees as a trusted and valued investment.
People’s health care must not be tied to their employment. Many unemployed are now seeing the holes in that safety net.
Returning to “Normal” is not an option. That “Normal” was a failure for the majority of Americans. We must be better than that.
Let us all strive for a better, brighter future. This November 3, 2020, Election Day will be the beginning of that brighter, hope filled future; a Frank Capra “Bedford Falls” future.
